Hurricane Season - School Status

Dear Faculty, Staff, and Families of the Diocese of St. Augustine,

We continue to monitor Hurricane Milton as he continues to remain a Category 4.  The hurricane is expected to make landfall south of Tampa, closer to Sarasota, and continue through the state and exit on the east coast as a Category 1, 2, or 3.  This massive storm will bring hurricane-force winds all the way through and across the State of Florida.  As we monitor the storm, it is anticipated that we will see severe weather and possible damage across the diocese.  Depending on your diocesan location, you could experience wind speeds between 40-100 mph, with potentially stronger gusts.  All counties in our diocese are under a state of emergency.  Many counties are under a hurricane watch or warning. We will also be monitoring local and state Emergency Operations Centers and the Florida Department of Emergency Management as well.

The complexity of the storm, the wind field, and the side of the storm we will be on, the good side, have led us to close the schools and early learning centers on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday throughout the diocese.  Please note: we will be updating our website as soon as we know a school is capable of opening (please see below).  â€‹

We want you to know that decisions are not made lightly, and we know that closure has ramifications for all our families and employees.  The safety of our employees, students, and their families is our top concern.

Below you will find the status of all of our Catholic schools throughout the diocese.  Your school and the diocese will also make use of our ParentAlert System (email, voice messaging, and text messaging) for communicating information to all families.

All 17 counties of the diocese are under a State of Emergency declared by the Governor and local states of emergency have been declared as well.  President Biden has also approved an emergency declaration for the State of Florida.  Please monitor this website and watch for communications from your school directly.  We will be posting the status of all schools for next week on this website.

Be sure that your family has a hurricane plan ready and that you have prepped for the potential of this storm.

May God bless you and your families, and let us pray for one another and all that are in the path of this hurricane.

The Office of the Superintendent
